Welcome to Cherokee Metro Parks  and Open Spaces

The District began its parks department in 1992, when El Paso County deeded over two parks to the District (Cimarron Eastridge and Cimarron Westridge Parks) El Paso County wanted to focus on the large Regional Parks such as Bear Creek and Fox Run – not on the neighborhood parks such as the two previously mentioned. The Cherokee Board of Directors at that time voted unanimously to approve this initial acquisition of open space, thereby including it in the District purview and guaranteeing it to be kept open space and available to the public.

The Cherokee Metro District currently owns and maintains 20 parcels of open spaces.
