The Cherokee Metro District currently owns
and maintains 20 parcels of open space.
The District started a parks
department in 1992, when El Paso County deeded over two parks to
the District (Cimarron Eastridge and Cimarron Westridge Parks) El
Paso County wanted to focus on the large Regional Parks such as
Bear Creek, Fox Run and not on the neighborhood parks such as the
two previously mentioned. The Cherokee Board of Directors at this
time voted unanimously to approve this acquisition of open space
and to include it into the District purview to keep it open space
an available to the public.
Lottery Funds Lottery funds are the primary source of revenue to maintain these open spaces. These lottery funds have provided funding for the purchase and installation of the playground equipment at the Cimarron Eastridge Park in 2002, and also at Fredericksburg Park located in Constitution Hills North in 2004.
Lottery funds have also been used to upgrade the nine street medians in the Cimarron Hills area; these medians were also deeded over by El Paso County Parks Department. These medians are located in the Cimarron Hills Westridge Filings, located south of Palmer Park Boulevard, west of Peterson Road and north of Omaha Boulevard.
Maintenance Parks and open space within the District are maintained by our Lead Park Maintenance Technician.
